What is Qi Gong?
Qi (pronounced Chi) means universal energy. Gong means work or practice.
So together Qi Gong means the cultivation of energy through movement and meditation.
Visualization, breathing and mantras are also used.
In the West Tai Chi is better known but in fact the Tai Chi forms came from the original Qi Gong practice.
It was practised and developed as a healing art by Chinese healers and it is still used in hospitals in China today,
together with modern medicine.
Qi Gong has also been practised by Buddhists and Daoists who have developed its spiritual dimension.
There is an artistic aspect to Qi Gong also - one can develop one's style, to move, walk, or dance more gracefully.
One can learn an artistic sword form, or calligraphy, or develop one's talents on a musical instrument or
improve one's singing voice.
Qi Gong can prevent or conquer illness, calm the mind, relax the body and improve physical, emotional and
mental health.
What can it treat?
It can treat many illnesses, particularly those where stress in involved.
Qi Gong is a healing therapy and a Qi Gong master or practitioner can either give healing to an individual
who knows nothing about it, or can teach an individual exercises and forms of meditation which can help him
to heal himself. It is also a form of self-development with its spiritual dimension.
How does it work?
Qi Gong works on many different levels, on a physical level, an energetic level and a more spiritual level.
It is possible to learn exercises, meditations, visualizations and mantras to improve one's own health.
It is also possible to receive healing from a Qi Gong master.
The Qi Gong master may or may not touch the receiver's body physically, working more on an energetic level.
The receiver may or may not feel the vital force go through him, depending on how perceptive he is.
The idea is to create a harmonious flow of energy throughout the body and to dispel any negative or blocked
energy that has accumulated.
Qi Gong masters have even been known to remove tumours just by zapping the area energetically.
The beauty of Qi Gong is that one can learn to heal oneself, provided that one puts in some practice.
One can also go on from there to develop healing skills oneself to give healing to others.
